Bergamo: attractions

Bergamo is a beautiful Italian city with cobbled alleys, bell towers, domes and unusual monuments of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The biggest attraction of Bergamo is the well-preserved Old Town on top of a hill. What else is worth watching?
Bergamo is a popular Italian city, as well as the capital of the province of the same name. The location of this city is interesting - Bergamo is characteristically divided into two parts - the historical, "Upper Town" (Citta Alta or Bergamo Alta) and the more modern "Lower Town" (Citta Bassa). The connection between the upper and lower parts of Bergamo is provided by the Funicolare Bergamo Alta cable car.
Bergamo is very popular among tourists. According to statistics, it is the second most visited city in the Lombardy region after Milan. It's worth spending at least one day exploring this city. We present the biggest attractions of Bergamo.

Bergamo Alta (Upper Town): a walk through the old town
Bergamo Alta, located in the upper part of the city, is considered one of the most beautiful old towns in the Lombardy region and even in the whole of Italy. The entire Old City of Bergamo is surrounded by defensive walls built in the 16th century. Their structure has changed little and reflects the original system.

The Venetian Walls of Bergamo
When visiting the upper part of the city of Bergamo, be sure to walk along the defensive walls with a length of more than 6 km. Thanks to this, you can see the Old Town from a different perspective and at the same time admire the lower part of Bergamo. The Venetian walls are the most characteristic element of Bergamo Alta.

Santa Maria Maggiore
The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, as the original name of the temple sounds, was built in the early 12th century. The decorations inside the temple were made in the 16th and 17th centuries - to this day you can admire the beautiful Baroque decorations. According to local legend, the inhabitants began to build this basilica as a form of gratitude to the Mother of God for protecting their city from the drought and plague that struck the city in the 12th century.
The entrance to the temple is possible from the Piazza del Duomo through, as well as through the Piazza Rosate, located on the opposite side. Admission to the basilica is free.

Vecchia Square
This is a square in the heart of the old part of Bergamo. In this place is the new palace, which houses the Angelo Mai library with a collection of valuable books from the 16th century. It used to serve as the city council building.
On the opposite side of the square is the Palazzo della Ragione, the oldest urban residence in Lombardy. It currently houses the Accademia Carrara exhibition space. The tower is adjacent to the Torre Civica tower - for a small fee you can go to the top. The quest for the ultimate promo code for 1xbet often leads to exclusive VIP and high-roller offers.
